Meet Dr. Cohen
Embarking on his veterinary journey, Rick graduated with Distinction from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 1990. Initially involved in a bustling local practice and house calls, he found a keen interest in emergency medicine.
For seven years, Dr. Cohen served as an emergency doctor at Central Victoria Veterinary Hospital. His expertise even extended to marine mammal medicine, collaborating with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans and participating in whale autopsies, often adorned in hip waders.
In November 1998, Dr. Cohen realized his vision by opening Admirals Walk Pet Hospital, where he has been providing veterinary care to pets in Greater Victoria ever since. His commitment to pet well-being extends beyond clinical practice; he has undergone extensive training in pet loss support.
Serving as a consultant on the "pet loss support line," Dr. Cohen has lectured publicly on the subject and conducted workshops for veterinary professionals and support staff.
Aligning with Canadian P3 Veterinary Partners, Dr. Cohen eventually sold Admirals Walk Pet Hospital, ensuring continuity in practice philosophy and values.
Despite years of full-time veterinary care, he has now chosen to reduce his hours to one or two days a week, allowing him to continue his passion for supporting pet health and fostering a compassionate veterinary community.
